Put the scale away

I often tell myself that my body is the least important thing about me. My grave isn’t gonna say my height and weight; it’s gonna say how loved I was and what I did with my life. That’s what I’ll be remembered by. But sometimes, it feels like all I’ll ever be is my appearance, even if I know that’s not true.

We’ve all seen the women before us pick themselves apart, we’ve all heard our friends say “I’m so fat,” and we’re all just trying to be the best version of ourselves.

But we’re never going to achieve that if we focus on the wrong thing. We can all choose to love ourselves instead and realize that the interior is so much more important than the exterior. Every day is a choice, and we can choose to live life anxious about how we look or we can choose to live happily realizing it doesn't actually matter. You will be remembered for your love, accomplishments, and so many other things. Focus on those. Focus on being a light for others, not someone who is too busy thinking about how many calories they ate today.

Who even cares about that anyways?

We’ve all celebrated with a cake, ate a pint of ice cream while crying over this that and the other thing, and cherished memories around a dinner table. Food has been a key player in all of those precious moments.

So, at the end of the day, we could all use a reminder that food is not our enemy, and the scale can afford to be put away for a while. The next time you start to pick yourself apart, remember that. Remind yourself to focus on what really matters...love and light.

Until next time,

Ella Greene.
