Teenage Tuesdays
Lessons from winter

š£Welcome to the Whinypaluza column called Teenage Tuesdays, written by Rebecca's daughter Ella Greene, who is 16 years old!
ā”ļøLook forward to a new blog from Ella from a teenage perspective on Tuesdays!
Lessons from winter
Iāve heard so many people talk about how much they hate the winter. Every year as soon as snow starts to fall everyone starts complaining (especially once the holidays end). But this year, I think thereās something we can all learn from the cold weather.
Everyone, even the Earth, needs a break sometimes.
Nature canāt function all year round. Every so often it has to take a break and winter is when it chooses to take it. Nothing is meant to last forever, so let yourself take time off when you need it (especially when itās cold and we all wish we could hibernate).
Thereās something good in most things.
Every snowstorm is an opportunity to spend time with my family. Every cold and dark morning is another day Iām glad to see. My parents have taught me that itās all about perspective, and I think that applies to the winter too.
Donāt do something before youāre ready.
If January doesn't feel like the time to set goals, wait till May when the world wakes up. Everyone experiences things differently and lives on a different timeline so try not to force yourself to do things in the winter if you donāt feel like itās the right time.
Eventually, you just get used to things.
No one likes the cold; but by February, most of us have gotten used to walking on ice and being able to see our breath. You can get used to almost anything if you expose yourself to it enough times. So choose something and get yourself used to it this year.
Then, as soon as we get used to it, the snow starts melting and spring returns. Winter has always been one of my favorite seasons because it has a way of teaching you more than the other seasons do (and I hate the heat). So I hope you learned something from my blog, thank you for reading.
Until next time,
Ella Greene.
