Lessons from the play

Everything just feels surreal. The play I’ve been looking forward to for months is finally over and I don’t know what to do about it. My feelings are muddled and all I know is that I am so extremely proud of everyone involved. We all worked so hard and I cannot believe what we were all able to accomplish together. 

That’s the main lesson being in The Phantom Tollbooth taught me. There is nothing better than being on a team. There is no better feeling in the world than having spent so much time with a group of people and getting to learn and create with them. So if I can encourage every adolescent (or adult!) to do one thing, it would be to be part of a team; no matter what you’re working towards, work with people. Other people make the stakes higher and everything feels much more worth it in the end because you know your achievements aren’t just yours. 

I also learned that some things just can’t be put into words. For the past few years I’ve tried to describe everything, but even language has its limitations. I feel like I just jumped off of a cloud—that’s the only real words to describe this past week, and that’s okay. Sometimes, you just had to be there.
