How To Move On

Some things never go away. No matter how hard you try, there they are, right where you left them. Every time I think I’ve gotten over something, there it is again in the back of my mind.

I wish I had some way to magically make this feeling go away. But the only thing you can do is let it happen. I’ve learned that fighting your brain is an uphill battle, so it's better to just let thoughts pass through you. Just breathe and move on to the next thing. A very wise woman taught me that (my mom).

One thing that never seems to leave me alone is perfectionism. I try and try to accept not being perfect, but it never works. It’s always there. That exact thing happened with this blog. I kept sitting down to write and never could. No idea was good enough, no stories were long enough, and every lesson was just my mom’s recycled. I would write a sentence and then immediately delete it. It got to the point where I just had to say “Enough is enough,” and force myself to sit down and write.

Sometimes our greatest power is forcing ourselves to do things we don’t want to. That’s the only way they get done!

That same sentiment applies to any thoughts that won’t leave you alone. Whether it’s social anxiety, a person, or bad memories, at some point you just have to move on. I know that’s easier said than done. So my best advice is to talk to someone you trust. Voicing your thoughts gives them less power, and once they have less power they’re easier to move past.

Until Next Time,

Ella Greene.
